Here is a report from Global News on possible defence and foreign policy changes for Canada coming soon. Canada’s Defence Minister Anita Anand signalled changes to Canada’s Defence and Foreign Policies are coming including changes to Canada’s current defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged (SSE). These changes include Canada’s commitment to NORAD upgrade programs and revisiting Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) with the United States. Could this mean that BMD could be on the table once again and may be part of the CSC Frigate program? She also indicated that work is now underway to craft a new Indo-Pacific Strategy for Canada.

The world seems a darker place, not just because of the invasion of the Ukraine by Russian but also the nations that sided with them. Iran was predictable but India was not. As well China seems intent on claiming Taiwan which would trigger a strong response from the United States. We should of course hope for a peaceful outcome but I believe we must be ready for conflict and therefore strengthen our military capability to meet these challenges and safeguard our own country as well as meeting our obligations to Nato
Hello Marilyn. Sorry, had not seen your comments before. Yes, your comment has a lot of validity and is just as current today as it was 2 years ago. The “nuclear clock” seems to be moving much closer to reality than ever before and Canada must be ready to respond quickly to avert such a disaster. The so-called Russian leader, Putin seems to be hell-bent on grabbing Ukraine along with China taking Taiwan. A BMD capability for the River class DDGH Destroyers will go a long way to protect Canada and its sovereignty and strengthen NATO’s hand to keep the ‘dogs-at-bay.’ Thanks for your insightful input. Cheers!
