The Arctic Council has been heralded as a body that emphasized cooperation in the Arctic. However, Canada, along with six other Arctic member countries have pulled back from the international Arctic Council until further notice in protest over Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Russia is the eighth country in this organization and also the chair of the council until 2023. The next meeting was scheduled to be held in Russia but now all meetings have been put on hold.
