The Royal Canadian Navy is not the only agency to experience cost increases in the ships being built through the National Shipbuilding Strategy. The Coast Guard ships have increased in price too. Apparently the estimated cost of the new Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel to be built for the Coast Guard has gone from the original estimate of $108 million to almost a billion dollars!
See Lee Berthiaume’s article “Cost of Coast Guard ship nears $1B as questions mount over federal shipbuilding plan,” in the Toronto Star.
