A new class of frigates for the French navy FDI (Frégate de defense et d'intervention) brings an interesting and new approach to the asymmetric threats being experienced in the Red Sea and elsewhere. The FDI design emphasizes 360 sensor view planes as a result of single mast design. In a space adjacent to the navigation bridge the FDI incorporates an Asymmetric Warfare Bridge where ship-wide displays provide all weather as well as day/night views of the area around the ship. The sensor suite is specifically designed to detract drones and small craft and the countermeasures include lethal and non-lethal means.
