There was an announcement last week that the Department of National Defence is planning to build a Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) Frigate Testing Centre. It will be built near Halifax on land already owned by DND. The facility will be used to test the combat, navigation and communication systems for the CSCs. Funding for the site is already included as part of the shipbuilding procurement process. The government is seeking contractors to design the facility with construction beginning in 2023.
