Davie Shipbuilding in Levis, Quebec, made an interesting announcement in the past week. The federal government is calling on industry to step up on domestic capacity in defence and technology – it included uncrewed and autonomous systems as one of 10 sovereign capabilities it’s looking to enhance. In this regard, Davie is launching a subsidiary – Davie Autonomous Inc. – dedicated to manufacturing autonomous boats. It will set up in Ontario (gasp) and will focus on manufacturing Kraken’s K3 Scout vessel in partnership with Kraken Technologies. (The K3 Scout is an uncrewed surface vessel (USV), 8.4-metres long with a maximum speed of 55 knots and the ability to carry a 600-kilogram payload.) To do this, Davie Autonomous will use a production network it plans to set up across Ontario, where apparently it’s in “advanced negotiations” with several sites. The hope is to make use of the manufacturing, composites, robotics and automation expertise in Ontario to build a product to serve both domestic and export markets. The company plans to announce the facilities and its production schedule by the end of this year.

Ukrainian Magura sea drones will be produced in the USA — Defence Express
Defence Express published an article stating that American ReconCraft will assemble Magura marine drones in Oregon and South Carolina under an agreement with UForce.
The agreement was signed at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, and ReconCraft co-founder Joe Silkowski said the company plans to produce hundreds, and eventually thousands, of Magura marine drones each year at manufacturing sites in Oregon and South Carolina.
According to the release, the Magura V7 is 7.6 m long, carries over 770 kg of payload, has a range of 560 km, and costs less than $500k depending on configuration.

According to the article, during just the first week of August 2026, operators of the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) hit 12 more ships of the Russian “shadow fleet” in the Black and Azov Seas.
Among the AFU units carried out the attacks, were notorious “Magyara Birds” (414th Brigade) and others. Although Russia used “Pantsir” air-defence systems to protect its tankers, Ukrainian operators still completed the task.
As indicated by the source, Ukrainian sea and air drones have struck 218 enemy vessels during the AFU’s “MoLoChKa” (“Milk”) operation: 134 in the Sea of Azov and 84 in the Black Sea.
The downside is that Russia now retaliates by attacking commercial vessels in Ukrainian seaports such as Odesa and along routes near Romania’s coast, threatening navigation safety, reducing grain shipments to 3rd countries, and further weakening Ukraine’s economy.
