Unlike most Remembrance Days, this year the weather was beautiful in Halifax. The usual cold and rainy weather suits the sombre ceremony, but the good weather draws out the crowds. It was heartening to see so many people attend the ceremony. We don’t know whether they served in the military or they’re thinking of someone in their family who fought in a war or just there to commemorate veterans in general. It doesn’t matter why they were there, just that they were. The ceremonial guns being fired by a frigate off the shore provided some additional gravitas to the ceremony - a reminder of the navy's role in the Battle of the Atlantic.
