Big Data, Big Insecurity?

As the Canadian government and the RCN advance in the NSS shipbuilding process, it’s time to stop focusing on the hulls and start thinking about what goes in the ships. This means, among other things, decisions about how to maximize computer/sensor connectivity – and maximize security of systems and data. In the Summer 2017 issue of Canadian Naval Review (Vol. 13, No. 2), I wrote an Editorial entitled “Invisible Pirates and the Marine Industry,” discussing cybersecurity as it relates to the marine industry. In the August 2017 issue of Maritime Reporter and Engineering News, there’s an interesting article about the topic of marine cybersecurity as it relates to both the marine sector and navies.
