And now there are six in the water!

By Les Mader, 11 December 2024

The launch of the future HMCS Robert Hampton Gray on 9 December 2024 means that the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) and the Halifax Shipyard have now put all six of the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) into their natural environment.

This clears the way for the completion of construction of the two AOPS for the Canadian Coast Guard.  At this pace, Halifax Shipyard’s statement that full rate production of the River-class destroyers will start in April 2025 seems credible.

This is very good news for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the RCN.

I wonder if it will be sufficient to give pause to those who always denounce the CAF, the NSS, and Canadian defence capital procurement.
